Reminders
Keeping warm in the classroom!
As part of our COVID-19 control measures, classrooms are well ventilated with windows and doors kept open. Please ensure your child has sufficient layers on to keep warm both in and outside of the classroom during the winter months. Children must also bring a coat to school every day - hats and gloves are a good idea now too. Remember to clearly name everything your child brings to school!
Flu Immunisations
If you have provided consent, your child will have their flu immunisation at school on Tuesday 10th November. The immunisation is given as a nasal spray by the School Nursing Team. Please be aware that the school nurses may not be able to see every child on Tuesday; some children may have their immunisation on Wednesday instead. Your child will come home with an information sheet once they have had the nasal spray. If your child has asthma and they become more wheezy or need to use their inhaler more than usual in the 72 hours before Tuesday, please let the school nurses know on 020 369 1043 or 020 369 1027.

Masquerade & Stagecoach Classes
Unfortunately, due to the extended government restrictions now in place, Masquerade Theatre Arts and Stagecoach classes held at school will stop for the duration of the national lockdown period. If you have any questions about the classes, please contact Masquerade or Stagecoach directly.
Online Tutors
Every year, private tutors help children catch up with missed work, address an area they are struggling in or teach extra-curricular activities. Lockdown has led to a major growth in this area, especially online, and this is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. LGfL have produced a leaflet to help parents and carers select the right tutor. This leaflet is attached below.
PMG Schoolwear, our uniform suppliers, will be open online for the duration of the national lockdown and orders placed via their website will be despatched as usual.
Congratulations to all the children in Year 6 who completed their Bikeability Level 1 and Level 2 training over the half term break. The children will receive a certificate with individual feedback from their instructor and a badge next week at school. We are so pleased we could continue with Bikeability training this term and hope to run another course for those Year 6 children who couldn’t attend this time and Year 5 children next term.
Next week we will be taking part in the BBC Children in Need ‘Five to Thrive’ programme and each day the children will spend time learning about a different aspect of mental and physical health.
Alongside a 5 minute ‘morning moves’ energiser workout with Joe Wickes, they will explore how friendships, reflecting on things in their lives, getting active and being curious can have a positive impact on their wellbeing.
Friday 13th November is the BBC Children in Need Appeal Day and as usual, we are supporting this with our own fundraising mufti day.
Children and staff will be tuning into Joe Wicks’ livestream event from their classrooms and cheering him over the finish line as he ends an epic 24 hours PE challenge. We would love everyone to wear sportswear for the occasion, in return for a donation of £2 to Children in Need. This year we are going cashless and have set up our own Children in Need Just Giving page.
Please click here and give what you can to raise vital funds for children and young people across the UK. Thank you!

PSA News & Events
This term, we are hoping to fund a new digital camera for every classroom to enhance the children’s learning experience. Our fancy dress mufti day on Wednesday 21st October raised over £600 towards this goal so a huge thank you to every family who donated. We really appreciate your support!
Fundraising is very challenging this year, as is running events and activities that can involve and engage everyone in Fern Hill community. Signing up and using one, or both, of the two charity shopping platforms that we are registered with is a great way to help us raise money for school purchases at no cost to you.
With Christmas on the horizon and a national lockdown in place, many of you may be doing more online shopping than usual so please consider using easyfundraising or AmazonSmile who will donate a percentage of what you spend to Fern Hill PSA.
We’ve raised £389 so far this year through the easyfundraising online shopping platform but we could raise so much more! Over 4,000 shops and sites will donate to us when you use the easyfundraising platform to shop with them – at no extra cost to yourself! With Black Friday deals starting soon, it’s simple to sign up and only takes 2 minutes. Plus, if you register by Monday 16th November, we’ll get a £5 bonus donation!
Sign up now at: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/fernhillpsa/
Fern Hill families have made 433 purchases in the last 90 days using AmazonSmile – thank you! If you shop on Amazon, please sign up to AmazonSmile who will donate 0.5% of the cost of your eligible purchases to us. You can check if your purchase is eligible for a donation by looking on the product detail pages.

Second-hand Sports Equipment/School Uniform Sale
Unfortunately, we are postponing the sale planned for Saturday 8th November until the new year. We’ll let you know the new date as soon as it is confirmed.
Christmas Tree Sale
We are delighted that Niki and her team are back again to support us with the annual Christmas Tree sale, outside the school main entrance over the weekends of Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th, Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th and Saturday 19th December.
This is an excellent opportunity to buy a high-quality Christmas trees and raise money for the school. Niki is a former Fern Hill parent who every year generously donates a percentage of profits from the sale to Fern Hill. Her Christmas trees are highly recommended and always in demand so get there early!
Sponsorship Boards
Local estate agents, Curchods, are supporting our Christmas fundraising once again. They will be advertising our Christmas tree sale on their branded boards and will donate £10 to Fern Hill for every board that goes up outside parents’ houses or flats.
The more boards that go up, the more money we will raise to benefit our children, up to a maximum of 50 boards. Please note these are NOT “for sale” signs – they advertise our tree sale only. The boards will be up for a period of three weeks from the end of November.
To have a board outside your home, all you need to do is complete the consent form available via this link: https://forms.gle/nzLRbLy4HF2Ws2FL6
Thank you for you support!
