PE - Keeping Warm
Remember that we still take our PE lessons outside during the winter and the children need tracksuit tops and bottoms in the cold weather. Tracksuits can be in the Fern Hill colours or any plain dark colour.
To Ms Wallace a member of our support staff who has left Fern Hill this week after being with us for over 18 months. We all wish her well.
The new menu and order forms for the second half of the Spring term are now available on our website. Please email us or deliver your completed orders, with payment to the office, by Monday 29th January.
We will be serving a World Book Day themed lunch on Thursday 1st March – please see the menu for further details.
If you have any questions or queries regarding lunches, please email email@example.com.
School lunch balance
School lunch balance letters will be sent home with the children in the next few days – don’t forget to adjust your next lunch payment by your balance!
Please note that if your balance is zero you will not receive a slip.

You may recall that last term our PSA entered a competition to win funding from Aviva for books for the school. We are delighted that Aviva has now confirmed the winners and that we were successful in securing the £1,000 that we applied for!
Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us, the money will make a real difference to our library resources and we look forward to the children enjoying some new books very soon.
Please follow this link if you wish to see details of all the other winners. Avivia Community Fund
The overall winner this week is School Coombe
Sharing the Stories of our Community
You have received a letter via ParentMail this week regarding National Storytelling Week.
We would like to invite parents /carers or grandparents to visit their class and either read a story in a language you speak, or tell a traditional story from your culture. You may wish to share some objects from the country, special clothing, or food (no nuts please). This is a special opportunity to chat and share your 'story' with the children in your child's class. We'd love to have you visit on either Thursday 1st Feb in the afternoon or Friday 2nd Feb in the morning. Please complete the form sent home this week or speak to your class teacher if you would to help.
Year 5 School Journey
The 3rd and final payment for the Year 5 School Journey is now due and needs to be made by Friday 9th February please. The letter containing full details is attached for your reference.
Gardening club will start after half term, there is lots to do in the secret garden – it is for years 2-6 on a Wednesday after school from 3.30 – 4.30pm.
Children will need to bring suitable clothing to wear for gardening – e.g. wellies if it has been raining.
The cost of the club is £27.50 for the 5 week half term – payment should be made on ParentMail.
If your child would like to join the gardening club please let me know by email - email@example.com
We will be bidding Farewell to Mrs Heasman who will be leaving us at the end of term. She started here at Fern Hill in 2002 within our SEN department as our inclusion manager. She has worked with many children and families throuought the school during her time here. She is now retiring to pursue a quieter pace of life beside the sea and to spend more time with her grandchildren. We all wish her well in the next chapter of her life.
The PSA invite you to chase away the January blues at their annual Quiz Night
on Friday 26th January.
There are still a few tickets left and they will be available from the school office until 3.30 pm on Monday 22nd January. They cost £8.50 which includes fish & chips from the amazing ‘Frying Squad’, freshly cooked on site (with vegetarian and meat options too) plus a contribution to the prize fund for the winning team. It’s a BYO night - bring your own drink and any nibbles or desserts you would like for your table. Tickets can be paid for by cash or cheque payable to ‘Fern Hill PSA’. You can make up a team (maximum of ten people please!) or join a team on the night. This is an event for the grown-ups only - parents, carers and staff are very welcome to bring friends who do not have children at the school. Doors open at 7.30 pm and the Quiz will end at 10.30 pm. Please see the attached poster for more information. If you have any questions, get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org
