We are all disappointed that Sports Day and our whole school picnic lunch couldn’t happen as planned. The children were fantastic this morning, in spite of the worsening weather – we are very, very proud of their enthusiasm and resilience. Thank you so very much to all the families who persevered through the rain to cheer them on.
We are very grateful for your patience and support today – our hope was to continue with Sports Day this afternoon as the rain eased off but unfortunately the ground was just too wet to safely run the events we had planned. Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will have their Sports Day during the morning of Friday 10th June and we will send out further information as soon as possible.
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
On Thursday 26th May, we will celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in school, to mark her 70 years of service to the nation and Commonwealth. As part of the celebrations, each year group has been given a decade to study. During next week, the children will investigate key events from their decade and explore the diversity of the nation and Commonwealth by learning more about the artists, musicians, fashion and design that influenced the time.
The children may come to school wearing clothes that were worn during their decade - and we would love them to represent their own heritage in their choice of clothes.
Nursery & Reception: 2010-2019 (dress up theme of Kings & Queens)
Year 1: 2000-2009 Year 2: 1990-1999
Year 3: 1980-1989 Year 4: 1970-1979
Year 5: 1960-1969 Year 6: 1950-1959
We will be holding our own Big Jubilee Lunch on the day as a whole school picnic outside. The children should bring a party packed lunch and Vicky and her team in the kitchen will be providing pizza and ‘jubilee’ brownies too. Children in Years 3, 4 and 6 will have their picnic on the astroturf so may like to bring in a picnic blanket or cushion to sit on. Year 5 are lucky enough to be visiting Hampton Court Palace on Thursday 26th May, so they will have their Big Jubilee Lunch on Wednesday 25th May instead - followed by an extended playtime!

The Fern Hill Parent Council’s purpose is to create a welcoming environment where parents can be assured that their views matter, and where they feel confident and comfortable in discussions. Its objectives are to promote parent partnership with the school, and it meets every term to discuss and share the views of our parent community with the Senior Leadership Team.
We are very keen to ensure that the Parent Council can fulfil its objectives effectively by representing the WHOLE school community. To do that, we need your feedback and, in particular, your input to the questionnaire that we use to collate the parent community’s views on a topic. Your views are vital to inform the improvements we make to promote the education and welfare of pupils.
This term, the Parent Council topic is focused on the children’s personal development, and we have created a short survey to gather your views on the extracurricular activities we offer and how we celebrate equality and diversity within the school.
You can access the survey here. The deadline for responses is 6:00 pm on Friday 3rd June. We look forward to hearing from you.
Cath Howe Book Signing
We are delighted to have the children’s author Cath Howe with us in school on Tuesday 24th May when she will host an assembly for children in Years 4, 5 and 6 based around the themes of her new book, The Insiders. After school, Cath will be signing copies of her book for us. The deadline for pre-orders has now passed, but you will also be able to buy a copy on the day, priced at £8. Payment will be cash only.

FernFest!
The annual Summer Fair is back for 2022, and this year we have a festival theme! FernFest will take place on 25th June from 12:00 - 3:00 pm. Watch this space for further details!
FernFest Brochure - advertise your business!
We will be producing a brochure to advertise the Fair. One side will have a map of the Fair, and the other a 2022/23 calendar with key dates for the next school year. If you have a business and would like to buy advertising space around the edge of the calendar, please email fernhillpsa@gmail.com and we can run through the various placement, size, and pricing options.
This calendar usually ends up parents’ fridges/noticeboards, so you could get a year’s worth of advertising in over 400 local homes!
Summer Raffle - prizes needed!
Following on from the tremendous success of our Christmas Fair Raffle, kindly supported by so many individuals and local businesses, we are starting to collect prizes for our Summer Raffle (which will be online again).
If you have any business contacts who would be happy to donate a prize to our raffle it would be very much appreciated (in return, they will receive free advertising to the school community as part of the raffle promotion). Please email Caroline at: fernhillpsa@gmail.com if you can help. Thank you.
