Mr. Scott (Ash class), Mr. Marir (Larch class), Miss Wheatley (Poppy class), Miss Cannon (Beech class), Miss Taylor (Birch class) will be leaving us at the end of term. Please see their goodbye messages below.
A message from Mr Scott - Ash Class
I have had a great year at Fern Hill, thank you for all the support from the staff, parents and children. As you may know my family expanded by one in January and I am taking a part time role to have more flexibility with my family.
Mr Scott – Ash Class
A message from Mr Marir - Larch class
Being at Fern Hill this year has been one amazing roller coaster. Unfortunately, the ride is over for me as I will be moving on to another school. I will always cherish the memories that I have had the joy in experiencing. Fern Hill to me will always be a wonderful, energetic and delightful place, actively celebrating diversity and community cohesion.
Mr Marir- Larch class
A message from Miss Wheatley - Poppy class
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you everyone at Fern Hill for all your support this year. I will dearly miss the children, parents and staff at Fern Hill and want to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so lovely! I leave peacefully knowing that your children are in the care of some of the loveliest teachers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I will be coming back to visit.
Love Miss Wheatley x

Healthy School Status
This week we have submitted our application for Healthy Schools Status to ensure that we are encouraging all pupils to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. As part of the accreditation for this, we have made the decision to no longer give out sweets and confectionary for children’s birthdays and celebrations from the next academic year (September 2018). We will continue to celebrate birthdays in class and will now also acknowledge children’s birthdays in Diamond Assembly on Friday. We want all children to feel special on their birthday and time will always be given to wish ‘Happy Birthday’ in class. If pupils still want to provide a treat to share with their peers we would encourage them to bring in a book to go in the class library (they can inscribe their name and age inside the front cover) or a small piece of stationery but there is no pressure to do this. If you would like further information about the Healthy Schools partnership, please see the attached link - http://www.healthyschools.london.gov.uk/about
Thank you as always for your support
Dads’ Breakfast
Thank you to all the families who joined us for the Dads’ Breakfast this morning at school. 171 of you filled the Large Hall! Our next Dads’ Breakfast is planned for Friday 12th October so please put the date in your diary and look out for an invitation at the start of next term.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the PSA and those parents who came into school to help serve tea's and coffees' to our new parents who visited today. We are sure our new families were made to feel very welcomed.
Farm Visit
On Tuesday there was much excitement in the lower school when a truck of animal arrived to spend the day. We had donkeys, pigs, geese, ducks and goats. The children got to learn about the animals and ensure they had their lunch and a brush as well. The highlight for the nursery children was when a goat decided to eat Miss Roberts’s shoe!
Healthy Hedge Fund
Healthy Hedge Fund Walk Update: We are very close to raising our full total. The family walk along the river is this Saturday at 10.00am. Please let us know you will be coming by adding your name to the doodle poll at this link: https://doodle.com/poll/5a2cfiuzyqfrm5rk.
Donations are still coming in and again we are staggered by how children are finding different ways in which to raise money for our hedge, so far this week we have had £98 from Amelie in Year 2 who has raised this by making and selling books marks, Joe in year 3 raised £18:50 by baking gingerbread , Zoe Waterman raised £300 from friends & family, Aashi (year 4) and Isha (year 1) raised £20.00 selling their old toys and Roxanne in year 1 who raised £1.05 by selling one of her drawings.
Year 5 Microsociety
As part of Microsociety Year 5 children made savoury muffins and sold them at the assembly. We have put all the money raised into the Hedge Fund. It's a collective of £103.47 which we think is a terrific total. Well done Year 5!
Sports News
The term is coming to an end, but the sports events keep on coming.
Year 6 Orienteering this week: Two teams of 4 children took part with 8 other schools to test their map reading skills on what was a very hot afternoon. Well done to everyone who took part.
Finally, a very big thank you to all the children, and their parents, for the sporting effort put in this past year. From skipping, to running, hockey to golf (and just about every sport in the middle!) - a big WELL DONE to you all.
Next term is already filling up with events, so watch out for more details early in September.
Keep active over the summer - swimming in the sea and beach rugby sound like my idea of a great holiday!
