Parent helpers
If you are a volunteer reader or regularly help in the classroom, please check with your class teacher to confirm if you are needed in school next week. Festive Celebrations
Christmas Jumper Day
Children and staff looked absolutely fantastic in their Christmas jumpers on Thursday! Thank you to everyone for showing your support for Save the Children, a charity working to improve the lives of children all over the world. If you would like to donate, please click here and enter our Christmas Jumper Day reference number: CJD220011631. When you donate to Christmas Jumper Day before 1st March, the UK government will match your donation.
Festive Concerts
Well done to all the children in Nursery and Reception who performed to their families this week. It takes lots of courage to sing in front of so many people! We hope you will be able to join us next week for the Year 1 and Year 2 concerts in school on Monday and the juniors' concert at All Saints Church on Tuesday.
Class Christmas Party Day
The children will have their class Christmas parties next Thursday 15th December. It is a mufti (non-uniform) day and the children may wear party clothes to school.Thank you so much to all the Class Reps who are coordinating food donations and parent helpers for the party. Please may we remind you that we are a nut-free school and to be mindful of any food allergies or dietary requirements in your class. There will be NO school lunches served on this day – the children will have a party lunch together in their classrooms. If you have ordered a school lunch via ParentPay for this day, your order will be cancelled and, if your child is in Year 3 or above, your account credited.
Children in Reception through to Year 6 will also enjoy a very special performance of the pantomime Aladdin and our Nursery children will be entertained by Froggle the Magican. Thank you so much to the PSA for funding this.
Don't forget, if your child would like to give Christmas cards to their friends, please send them into school by Monday 12th December. The children can post them in their class post boxes, and they will be handed out during the week.
Book of the Week
'Tyger' by SF Said
In a strange alternate world, where the British Empire has never ended, a young boy called Adam has uncovered something incredible in a rubbish dump in London – a mysterious, mythical, magical animal. A Tyger.
'Tyger' is a spellbinding, lyrical story about the spark inside all of us that has the potential to change the world. It is also an exquisitely illustrated book and would make an excellent gift. Highly recommended!
Fern Hill Footballers...what a win!
"Fern Hill Year 5 and 6 footballers won 8 - 0 against Alexandra School in the match on Tuesday 6th December. Each team had seven players, but there had to be at least three girls and 3 boys on the pitch. Fern Hill started on the attack and were leading 6 - 0 at half-time. Alexandra School, playing away from their home pitch, had a few chances in the second-half, but Fern Hill scored another two goals to secure their place in the next round of the competition! At the end of the match, sportsmanship was shown with shaking hands and lots of "well done" being offered by both teams. Congratulations to the Fern Hill players on this big win!"
~ Seraphina and Kian, Year 6
"Thank you to all the parents who came and supported the team - it was great to see so many of you. And a big thank you to the three students from The Kingston Academy who came and officiated the match for us.
We find out who we are playing after Christmas, so watch this space for news of the next match!"
~ Mrs Lawn, Sports Lead
