Staff News
We have said goodbye to Mrs Merha this week who has been with us since 2014 as a teaching assistant working with many children across Fern Hill. She is moving out of the area, we wish her well in her new home and job.
We have welcomed a new school meal supervisor Mrs Cozens this week, who will assist the children with all aspects of lunchtime. Welcome to Fern Hill!
Tissues!
If you are able to send your child to school with a box of tissues for their classroom we would be very grateful. Our supplies run out extremely fast. Many thanks.
Sun Cream & Sun Hats
With the sunshine hopefully making an appearance more frequently now, please remember to apply sun cream to your child each morning.
We are unable to apply sun cream in school.
Children should also come to school with a sun hat to wear outside. This can be any plain style sun hat, or a Fern Hill sun hat. These can be purchased from PGM School wear in Tolworth.
Remember to send children with water bottles too!
WWF Fund raising
A team of year 5 girls will be selling hand made items on Wednesday 25th April outside the school reception, in order to raise money for their chosen Charity World Wildlife Fund. Please come along to support them as they have worked hard to produce some lovely items.
A Message from Mr Scott
Welcome back to the new term.
I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic break. This term is action packed with lots of creative teaching and fun learning to look forward to. Hopefully we continue to see some more lovely weather, it has been great to see all of the children refreshed and excited to be back for the summer term.
School Reception Entry
You may have noticed that the new entry system is now in effect on the main entrance to the school office. You need to press the button with a bell on it to contact the office for entry. To exit the reception area press the green button high on the wall to the left of the exit doors.
Post
As we are working towards becoming paperless and with the introduction of ParentPay, we no longer have the need for a large post box. Any school correspondance can be handed to class teachers or posted through the letter box in the door to reception.
Music Lessons & Clubs
All school clubs and music lessons begin next week on Monday 23rd April. You can find a list of club dates on our website here.
Please remember to send your child in with their instruments for music lessons.
There are still places left on Friday's dance class, your child can attend 1 free taster class before you enrol your child for the term. Contact clubs@fernhill.rbksch.org to apply.
School Lunches
- Don’t forget to order lunches for week 3 (30th April) by midnight on Sunday 22nd April!
- You can check your order online via ParentPay by clicking on ‘make meal bookings’ then selecting ‘view menus and choices’ from the selection box to the left of the screen.
- Any problems please call or email lunches@fernhill.rbksch.org.
Library News
The libraries will be reopening on Tuesday this week and classes will be visiting with their class teacher over the course of the next couple of weeks to borrow books. The rules for the KS2 library were shared in assembly on Tuesday and are attached for parents to see below. Children may only take a book from the school library if has been scanned out on the library system by Mrs Eakin or another member of staff; they should also return their book to Mrs Eakin as soon as they have finished it so that other children can borrow it. In EYFS and KS1 books are signed out of the library by an adult and are signed back in when your child returns it. We strongly believe that books should be respected and looked after as they are school property and a significant amount of money has been invested them – we will therefore be operating a fine system of £5 for any book that is lost or considerably damaged.
Well done to all of the children who have started the 100 book challenge over the holidays – keep up the great work! We look forward to hearing about the new books that you are reading! The lists are also attached below for each phase (Year 1 and 2, Year 3 and 4, Year 5 and 6).

A new Arrival!
I am very excited to announce the arrival of a brand new greenhouse! After many years of fund raising we are very grateful to all past and current members of the Garden Gang for their hard work planting, growing and selling hundreds of pots of flowers, plants and vegetables. Thank you to all of the parents that have supported the cause by buying our produce, and to Mr Pantling and Mr Morrow for assembling and erecting the new greenhouse. Also huge thanks to Mrs Evans for her continued hard work and support. We cannot wait to move in to the new greenhouse and grow beautiful plants and flowers for the benefit of the whole Fern Hill community.
We have a gardening day arranged for Saturday 28th April, please do come along with all of your family and join us for some fun spring cleaning in and around the garden. We hope to see many of you there!
Mrs Dutra
Girls’ Football Week 23rd – 29th April
As part of a celebration of girls football in England, the FA have launched Girls’ Football week, starting on 23rd April.
There will be a lunchtime girls’ football competition being held – so get some friends together, and enter a team.
Please see attached for details of local clubs organising special events. (Additionally, go to http://www.thefa.com/womens-girls-football/get-involved/girls-football-week for more information, venues and events.)
Many thanks to Ire, in Elder Class, for making sure that Fern Hill celebrates this great initiative.
Voluntary Fund update
Many thanks once again to all of you who have kindly donated to the Voluntary Fund! You have donated £13k so far this year, bringing our total since September 2016 to £31.5k. Several families donate regularly each month, so the total will increase further before the end of the school year.
The fund has made an ongoing commitment to ensure that the technology available to teachers for lesson delivery continues to develop. So far two CTouch LaserAir+ screens have been installed in Ash and Willow classes thanks to the fund.
Finally, we would like to remind any of you who have donated to the fund and are tax payers to please remember to complete a Gift Aid form, so that we can claim your tax back, and increase your donation by 25% at no cost to you. Forms are available in the school office, and also on the website (navigate to Parents – Voluntary Fund).
