Well done to year 2 who had the best year group attendance for this week.
Congratulations to Bracken class who once again achieved the highest class attendance this week with 100%!
Bicycles & Scooters
An unlocked bicycle was stolen from our bike rack this week. Please remember that all bicycles and scooters are left at the owners risk, and we highly recommend using locks.
Look out for the proof sheets in the childrens book bags next week.
Poster Competition Winner!
A big well done to Amelie in Lavender class for entering and winning the 'Eco-council' poster competition! It was a very informative poster and has helped us all at Fern Hill to remember to save energy!
Kingston Libraries Reading Challenge
Saturday 8 July - 16 September
Read six books from your local library and collect small rewards along the way.
Fern Hill Summer Fair!
Thank you once again for all your support in the run up to our Summer Fair tomorrow, for all your donations and offers of help on the day. The Fair programme is attached, if you’d like a sneak peek!
A final ask! Donations of cakes, cupcakes and biscuits for the Fair café are needed and they can by left anytime today in school reception or you can just bring them with you to the Fair and drop them off at the café which will be in the small hall.
If you’ve bought raffle tickets, don’t forget to drop off the counterfoils and payment at the PSA post box – the deadline was 9 am this morning but there will be one last check for returns today. If you haven’t got round to buying any tickets yet, they will be on sale at the Fair.
Beer, Band & Curry Night
The PSA will be rounding off this year’s fundraising with an end of year social for the grown-ups. The Beer, Band & Curry Night will be on Friday 7th July, at school, from 7.30-10.30pm.
Local band ‘5 Day Weekend’ will be on stage playing covers of 80s, 90s and 00s tunes, catering will be from Al Amin, a fantastic local Indian restaurant, and we’ll have a paying bar with all the usual plus local real ale from The Park Brewery on tap.
This is a perfect opportunity to get together for an end of term celebration and all the money we raise will go to school funds.
Tickets are £10 each and include food (chicken or vegetarian curry and rice) and your first drink. They will be available to buy at the bar at Summer Fair and then outside school reception next week. Ticket numbers are limited by how many people we can comfortably fit in the main hall so it’s first come, first served…get there fast!
Nursery Sports Day
We had a wonderful day on Thursday when Daisy Class enjoyed their Sports day! The morning children completed their races before the afternoon families joined us for a big picnic in the Daisy Garden.
The afternoon children then took part in their races. Both classes received medals and lollies for their amazing effort and team spirit. We were so proud of all the children and we know that all the grown ups watching were too!
Playground Apparatus Reminder
Children must NOT use the playground apparatus before school. There is no adult supervision and we have had a couple of accidents recently where children have fallen and hurt themselves. Thank you.
The overall winner this week is School Richmond
Fern Hill Choir at the Rose Theatre
Yesterday evening, the choir sang superbly under the direction of Pete Churchill. The theme of the concert was 'The Musical Heritage of Kingston' and their two special songs were 'Down Town', originally sung by Petula Clarke who lived locally and 'His Master's Voice' written by Mrs Ingram and all about the life of Nipper the HMV dog.
The behaviour of our singers was exemplary and they were professional throughout the event!
Soloists were Jasmine, and Eloysia with backing harmonies by Anushka, Zoe, Emily and Ellena, as well as Marcus narrating and singing as Nipper.
Thank you to all our encouraging parents and special thanks to the mums who helped out during the rehearsals.
What a fantastic experience the children had on Thursday when Zoolab came to visit. They got the opportunity to hold a Millipede, Corn Snake, Giant African Snail and they got to stroke 2 baby rats called Coffee and Cream. They even got the chance to see a Scorpion. What an exciting morning!
Well done to the year 4 and 5 relay teams who represented Fern Hill at the KSSP Summer Relays in Thames Ditton this week. The team were in high spirits on this warm summer's day and were eager to set off on their 800m legs. Teams were made up of 4 runners who ran a lap of the 800m course each before handing over the baton. We were amongst 270 children in what was a fantastic athletics event. Every team member ran their socks off and when they weren't running, they were busy encouraging others who were racing. You all did so well and it was fantastic to see how you supported each other! A special well done has to go to Timmy who ran twice for his team! In the results, Fern Hill finished 7th in the Year 4 teams and 10th in the Year 5 teams. You all deserved a medal for your efforts, well done.
Thank you to the parents who attended the event and showed your support by encouraging the children. Thank you also for offering to help transport the children to this event. We would not have been able to attend without you.
