Y6 Orange Tree Theatre Visit Review
by Eloysia West:
I found the performance engaging as well as very funny and sad at the same time. There were four actors in the whole production! They had to have fast quick changes backstage to transform from one character to the other. Personally, I found the costumes very creative and eye-catching. We were all surprised when we saw our workshop leader (Aisha) perform some amazing gymnastics and sang very well too. We were all impressed.
Be Safe in the Sun
Now the warmer weather has arrived, we recommend that sun cream is applied to your child before school, and sun hats and a named water bottle are brought to school. Thank you.
Look out for the proof sheets in the childrens book bags next week.

An Amazing Achievement - The Sponsored Run
The sponsorship money has now been collected and counted, and we are delighted to inform you that Fern Hill School has collectively raised a massive;
We are delighted with this result, it really demonstrates the core of Fern Hill's values.
Inspiration - In the energy and willingness to do well from the children and the staff that took part.
Excellence - Demonstrated in the personal achievement of every runner that took part.
Empathy - The encouragement from parents and fellow pupils to keep going on a very hot day.
Collaboration - The effort from our whole school community in raising funds for our chosen local charities and our school.
- The combined distance run was equal to 49 marathons (including 2 from the staff.)
- That's 1283.8 miles run in one day!
- That equivalent to driving from here to Copenhagen and back.
The money raised will be split between our chosen local charities Love Kingston & Enhanceable and Fern Hill School.
Well done everyone!
The Fern Hill Summer Fair – Saturday 24th June, 12.00-3.00 pm
Just a week left now until our Summer of Sport Fair! A huge thank you for all the tombola donations today. There’s always room for more on the tombola and we are very short of items for the grown-up’s stall (particularly wine, beer, cider etc.) so please keep those contributions coming – the more we have, the longer the stall can run at the Fair!
Items can be left with the school office at any time.
A few reminders for next week:
Monday 19th - Donations needed for the 2nd hand stalls. Please drop off any 2nd hand school uniform & activity clothes (ballet, karate etc.), children’s books & jewellery (in good condition please) in school reception.
Wednesday 21st June – Art competition deadline. The winners will be announced by Mr Scott at the Fair.
Friday 23rd June - Cakes needed for the café. Please leave donations of cupcakes, cakes & biscuits – homemade or shop bought – in school reception on Friday 23rd or just bring them with you to the Fair and drop them off at the café in the small hall.
Friday 23rd June – Raffle deadline. the deadline for entry into the raffle prize draw is 9.00 am so make sure you have returned your ticket counterfoils and payment to the PSA box by then. Don’t forget to return any unused books too. The winners will be drawn on Saturday at the Fair but don’t worry if you can’t be there, all winners will be notified and prizes can be collected from the school office the following week. If you haven’t had a chance to buy any tickets yet, they will be available to buy all next week outside school and at the Fair.
The International Food Stall also needs your help. Information was sent home with your child yesterday but just in case you missed it, please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you can provide a dish for this stall – hot or cold, savoury or sweet, vegetarian and nut-free only. This stall has always been one of the most popular and profitable at the Fair – let’s keep it that way!
Thank you to everyone who supported the PSA café at Sports Day especially all the parent helpers who took time out from watching their own children to serve everyone else! We raised £260 for school funds.
The PSA are inviting all children to participate in a creative competition with the theme 'A Summer of Sport'. Children can use whatever medium they choose to reflect the theme. Entries should be on paper no larger than A3. It may represent a major sporting occasion, such as Wimbledon or the Tour de France or may be an activity like fishing with Granddad, swimming, or dance. The ideas are endless so we hope their imaginations will lead them.
There will be separate entry levels for the competition. EYFS/KS1/Lower KS2/Upper KS2 with exciting Lego prizes to be won!
Entries should be brought into school by Wednesday 21st June. Entries must display the child's full name and class. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the Summer Fair.
Dynamic Dads in Daisy!
Daisy Class welcomed a host of dads, uncles, brothers and granddads this week! Our annual 'Dynamic Dads' was a huge success with a range of activities including den building, water play, obstacle courses, laptops, printing and lots of story telling. We would like to thank everyone who joined us this week. We loved observing the children interacting with their family and including friends in their play together. The sunshine certainly helped us to enjoy the Daisy garden as you can see from the photos!
The overall winner this week is School Kingston
In year 5 we have been using Inkscape to create geometric patterns. Inkscape uses vectors (lines and directions) so we can make our patterns any size and they don't become pixelated (fuzzy.) We made some patterns in the style of Bridget Riley, an artist famous for her optical illusions. You might want to be sitting down while looking at Mark's fantastic recreation of her work 'Movement in Squares'.
If you would like to find out more, please come along to the Open Morning on Friday June 23rd between 9:15-10:15am or check the Computing page on the school website if you're unable to make it.
Breakfast Club Staff Change
Miss Fraser who has been with us since Christmas will be doing her last day in breakfast club next Friday (23rd June.) We will be welcoming back Miss Mendonca from her maternity leave.
Year 1 Visit to Birdworld
Year One visited Birdworld on Wednesday. They loved looking at all the different types of birds and other animals. We have a very knowledgeable bunch of children in all three classes who were fascinated during our guided talk to learn more about the different types of animals that inhabit the earth (birds, mammal's, reptiles, etc.). All the children were very well behaved and a real credit to Fern Hill.
Girls Maths Event
Well done to all of the Year 5 and 6 girls that took part in The Girls Maths Event- hosted at Fern Hill- on Thursday 15th June. They faced tough competition from schools across both Kingston and Richmond boroughs. A special mention to Fern Hill team A for coming joint second with a total of 91/100, the team consisted of: Ayshah (Willow), Ellie (Lime), Sofia (Lime) and Ava (Sycamore).
Keep up the fantastic work!
