We would like to inform you that at the end of this term Miss Hales will be retiring. She has been a huge part of Fern Hill having been employed since 2003. Miss Hales has taught most of the children at Fern Hill since the start of her career with us. She has worked tirelessly in the past couple of years teaching EAL and has had a great impact on the children both past and present. We're sure that you will all join us in wishing Miss Hales a very long and happy retirement.
Red Nose Day - Friday 24th March
We are inviting the children to participate in fund-raising for this worthy cause by coming to school wearing red nose themed MUFTI for a £1 donation which will go to the Red Nose Day charity. Official noses and red clothing of your choice are welcome!
If you would also like to bring in Red Nose themed cakes on the day, they will be sold at the Arts Week evening for parents for charity donations. Children can take these into their classrooms on this day to be stored so they don't get confused with the Y3 cake sale donations left in reception. We would welcome your generous baked efforts although it is not a requirement.
There will be a small amount of official Red Nose Day merchandise for sale in school on Wednesday 22nd March & Thursday 23rd March on the school gates at drop off and pick-up times.

Year 6 Visit the Houses of Parliament
Yesterday Year 6 had the privilege of visiting the Houses of Parliament. We had a tour of Parliament and were able to sit in the viewing galleries of both the House of Lords and House of Commons, during debates. We also had a workshop to learn about how laws are made, debating and passing our own laws. Oak class voted to ban smoking and Willow made it legal for children to drive! This great trip was rounded off by meeting our MP: Sarah Olney. She talked to us about becoming an MP and answered our questions about being an MP and current politics, including the Heathrow airport expansion and leaving the EU. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and all the children behaved respectfully. They were a credit to our school.

Willow Class - Trip Report
Our trip to Clapham Magistrates Court
On Friday 13th of January 2017, Willow class visited the Clapham Magistrates Court. We learnt a lot about how the court works and the types of crimes they deal with. Before the trip, we had been rehearsing a script which included a case that was re-enacted in the court room. In addition to this, we got to visit the cells that the defendants are kept in whilst waiting for the trial to begin. We had a great trip although there was a mild disturbance as we discovered that a swan was roaming the train tracks!

This week Fern Hill were represented at the Kingston Primary School's High5 Netball tournament by a team of high-spirited and resilient girls. The team played 3 games against schools from the borough of Kingston, and also against the raging winds of Storm Doris! Every member of the team gave their best and enjoyed the experience of playing their first competitive netball games. Well done all of you for your fighting spirit! You attacked and defended so well as a team, and you improved your playing in each game! We hope to see you at the competition again next year. Keep up your hard work.
This year's netball squad: Loveday, Skye, Sofia, Catriona, Charlotte, Maya and Lily.
Thank you to the parents that helped with transport and supporting the girls at the event.
