Year 5 parents
Please note that there has been a change of date to the planned Micro Society assembly on June 20th. It has be rescheduled to take place on Wednesday 12th July from 2-3pm. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
On Tuesday 7th & Wednesday 8th June our school photographer will be taking class photographs. Please remember your children need to be wearing the correct school uniform, tucked in shirts, ties jumpers & cardigans, or summer dresses. Children should have tidy hair and should not be wearing any jewellery. Thank you.
Well done to year 1 who had the best year group attendance for this week.
Congratulations to Cornflower class who acheived the highest class attendance this week.
Thank you to everyone that supported the book fair by buying or selling books recently, the amazing amount raised will really help to expand the variety of books on offer in our libraries
What an amazing Active Week! Thank you to everyone for being so enthusiastic, and for demonstrating both sporting and school values. Lots of activities, some new sports, some more familiar ones - and of course, Sports Day and the Sponsored Run.
Sponsored Run A new fund raising event for the school, the run took place throughout the day, with year groups all having a chance to run laps of the school grounds. Everyone, including teachers took part, and the resulting distance is around 40 marathons!
Sponsorship money raised is due in on the first Tuesday after half term Tues June 6th.
Mrs Stephenson would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who helped throughout the day. It would not have been possible without you.
Sports Day was another hot day, challenging the stamina of many just to cope with the heat. A huge well done to Kingston and Hampton, who tied to win the KS1 cup (a first in Fern Hill history) and Kingston, for winning the KS2 cup.
Great sportsmanship was shown by all, and a big thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer everyone on.
Also, a big thank you to the providers of the sports, as well as Grey Court School Year 10 PE GCSE students for their time.
Overall, an amazing week!
We would like to thank Mrs Lawn for her wonderful organisation of the week. Further photographs of active week can be viewed on our website here.
Parent Governor Election
We are pleased to announce that Alan Waterman will be our new Parent Governor. Alan brings with him skills and experience in the financial sector that will be of huge benefit to the school and we have no doubt that he will be a great asset to the team - well done Alan.
It was very pleasing to see the number and quality of the candidates who put themselves forward for election and many people commented on the calibre of every individual on the ballot paper. Some 275 parents/carers took the time to cast their vote and we are delighted that so many families have been involved in this process. We would like to thank you all for the support that you continue to show the school. We would also like to take this opportunity on behalf of the school to thank Dylan Jones - our outgoing Parent Governor - for all his hard work and support since he took office in 2013.
Can we please remind parents NOT to let anybody in or out of the school building without first checking with the staff in the school office. On occasions parents leaving the building have held the main school door open and allowed children and adults to enter the building.
All visitors to school must sign in before entering and the office staff need to check their credentials. If the office staff are away from their desks then visitors will have to wait until they return to sign in.
When children arrive late to school, parents MUST escort their child into the building and sign their child into the late book.
We are thrilled to announce the safe arrival of baby Rudd this week. Mrs. Rudd gave birth to a beautiful baby girl weighing in at 8lbs 4oz. She is yet to be named. Congratulations from all at Fern Hill.
We would like to say a big well done to Bluebell and Poppy Class for their amazing assemblies! Both were themed around animals, re-telling the children's favourite stories of 'Walking Through the Jungle' and 'Dear Zoo'. They were inspired by their recent trip to the zoo, and they looked the part with their amazing costumes and face paints! Well done to all the children for their brilliant performances.
Plant & Produce Sale
Mrs Dutra and the garden gang held a sale of our school grown produce and plants this week. They harvested wonderful fresh salad and vegetables and sold cuttings from a range of our own plants. Well done to all of gardeners and to Mrs Dutra. A total of £40 was raised from the sale will which go towards saving for a school greenhouse. Thank you for your support.
Thank you to those parents who have already completed our annual survey. We have had 98 responses so far, but have a target of 500 to reach. If you have not yet completed the survey please take the opportunity over half term or the first week back to submit your feedback. Online survey.
A Summer of Sport Competition
The PSA are inviting all children to participate in a creative competition with the theme 'A Summer of Sport'. Children can use whatever medium they choose to reflect the theme. Entries should be on paper no larger than A3. It may represent a major sporting occasion, such as Wimbledon or the Tour de France or may be an activity like fishing with Granddad, swimming, or dance. The ideas are endless so we hope their imaginations will lead them.
There will be separate entry levels for the competition. EYFS/KS1/Lower KS2/Upper KS2 with exciting Lego prizes to be won!
Entries can be brought into school after half term, the closing date is Wednesday 21st June. Entries must display the child's full name and class. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the Summer Fair.
Summer Fair Raffle
A letter about our Summer Fair raffle and a book of tickets were sent home with the children this week. You are under no obligation to buy any tickets but if you, family members or friends would like to participate there are some fantastic prizes to be won! The raffle will be drawn at the Summer Fair on Saturday 24th June - you don’t need to be at the Fair to enter, just make sure your contact details are clearly written on the ticket counterfoils. The counterfoils of any tickets sold and payment should be returned to the PSA post box in school reception by 9.00am on Friday 23rd June. Please also return any unused books of tickets by this date so that they can be sold at the fair. Extra ticket books are available from the school office if you require them. Good luck!
