Plant & Produce Sale!
On Wednesday 24th May we will be selling the plants, fruit and vegetables that we've been growing in our own gardens. Come and find us at outside the school office from 3pm. All proceeds go towards building a greenhouse for our garden. Please come and support us and sample our home grown strawberries, carrots, radishes, lettuce, beetroot, onions!
In the KS1 playground this week Oscar from year 2 made an exciting discovery.
We had two Poplar Hawk-moths visit our playground, much to the excitement of some of our children. They all enjoyed taking a close look at them, but showed great respect and kept at a safe distance, resisting the urge to touch them.

Voluntary Fund update
Many thanks to all of you who have generously donated to the Voluntary Fund this year! You have donated £14.4k so far, and with several families donating each month, this will rise before the end of the school year.
The Voluntary Fund Board of Trustees have agreed to use some of this money to fund 2 new CTouch Laser Air+ screens, installed this month in Year 5 and 6 classrooms. These make use of the very latest interactive technology and represent a fantastic upgrade on obsolete projectors in those rooms.
Finally, we would like to remind any of you who have donated to the fund and are tax payers to please remember to complete a Gift Aid form, so that we can claim your tax back, and increase your donation by 25% at no cost to you. Forms are available in the school office, and also attached to this newsletter.
Please can you take the time to complete our online survey. It takes just 3 minutes to complete.
We really value the time you take to provide us with feedback about the school and suggestions on where we can improve and what we do well.
It is important that you provide us with feedback for each child you have at Fern Hill as we like to be able to examine each year group individually.
Last year we received a total of 126 responses giving a response rate of approximately 21% of the school. This year we are targeting 500 responses. The survey will be live until Friday June 9th 2017. We really appreciate your feedback.
All of our children have really enjoyed the interactive music workshops that have been running in school this week. They've had the opportunity to explore lots of different instruments and were really engaged throughou the sessions. Have a listen to some of our year 4 students below.
The overall winner this week is School Kingston
*Please note that all after school clubs will be running as usual on Sports Day (Thursday 25th May)
Fit for Sport will be running on inset day. Monday 5th June from 8.30am - 5.30pm. Please check their website for details.
Art Skills club (Tuesday & Friday) will no longer be available after half term.
SPARK STEM Project (Science Technology Engineering & Maths)
Six girls from year 5 have been selected to participate in a 6 month project organised by The Kingston Academy to encourage talented female students to pursue a career in STEM.
The project launched this week with a visit to Homerton College, Cambridge where our girls explored physics and attended lectures with students from Latchmere School and TKA. The girls were given a tour of the college and made electric stair circuits to install in a cardboard castle that they were given to take home.
Jyotsna wrote: 'We explored the hall, it looked like Hogwarts!' & 'What an amazing trip, we can't wait for another fun STEM trip.'
In June the girls will visit Google HQ in London.
Nursery Dress Up Day
Daisy celebrated their Nursery Rhyme topic with a dress up day! The children looked wonderful in their costumes which ranged from stars to buses, farmers to clocks, mice to sheep and even a french sailor! The children took part in activities such as making cress heads, planting flowers in the Daisy Garden and decorating biscuits. Thank you to all the parents for their effort in providing and making costumes! Have a lovely weekend.
