Year 5 School Journey
We wish our year 5's a fantastic time at Kingswood next week. We know that you will have an amazing time taking part in new and exciting activities with your school friends. Parents can keep up to date with their progress by following the blog on the school website. Please ensure you arrive at school on Tuesday at 8.50am sharp for a 9.45am departure from school. We will send a message confirming their safe arrival via ParentMail.
If your child is due to go on the trip and is unwell at the weekend they must NOT attend the trip. As you are aware there has been an outbreak of chickenpox in year 5 so please be mindful of this if your child falls ill over the weekend.
If you need a copy of the suggested kit list for next weeks school journey, you can find it on our website here.
National Gardening Week
The Royal Horticultural Society celebrated National Gardening Week during the Easter holidays. National Gardening Week was launched six years ago by the RHS and aims to become the country’s biggest celebration of gardening.
We used it is an opportunity for our children to get involved in a bit of gardening (even in the hailstones.) Once the seeds have sprouted and are a bit bigger we will transplant them to places around the school, making the place a little greener and cheerier.
Flying The Nest
After a wonderful 10 days of watching the living eggs hatch and grow into little chicks, they have this morning returned to Living Eggs for re homing. The children have witnessed every stage of development from hatching to brooding. They've learnt about their development and shown great care and responsibility when handling them. They will be missed by both the children and staff.
On Thursday, a team of Year 2 girls strapped on their shin pads and laced up their trainers for an afternoon of football at Kew Association Football Ground. The girls were selected from a huge number of participants at the trials, their classmates should be very proud of their efforts. The girls played in games of 10 minutes against Ellingham, Alexandra, and two teams from Burlington. The girls put on a great show of teamwork, demonstrating tackling skills and ball control to both attack, and defend the goal. Their skills improved with each new game. It was delightful to see the resilience that each player had throughout the games and the team spirit they shared. Well done girls!
Team selected: Sophia, Liliana, Silvia, Lucy, Olivia, Madita, and Amelia.
Congratulations to Amelia for taking home the team medal, for her excellent team attitude and bravery in goal.
School club payments are now overdue and must be paid immediately via ParentMail, cash or cheque.
There will be no football club for Years 5 & 6 on Thursday as the coaches and Year 5 will be on the School Journey. A catch up session will run in the last week of term.
As a school, we are trying to incorporate Music more into your child’s learning and during the week of the 15th May, there will be exciting Music workshops happening for all children.
A company called The Education Group will take the workshops. They have been performing workshops for many years and are renowned for their interactive, fun and engaging sessions. All their workshops are closely linked to the National Curriculum and as a school, we thought that this would be a great and fun opportunity to incorporate Music within a topic.
Each year group will have a different theme, which relates to their summer term topic. This will be an exciting way for the children to engage with their topic and explore musical instruments at the same time. It will be a highly interactive hour-long session where the children will learn many things relating to their topic, be stimulated, and which will support lessons to follow in class.
We would appreciate a small contribution of £3.00 per child to allow these workshops to take place. Payment should be made online via the payment facility on ParentMail by Friday 12th May. If you are not registered on ParentMail you may pay by cash or cheque made payable to Fern Hill Primary School. Cash and cheques should be posted in a named, sealed envelope in the letterbox outside the office.
Children in receipt of pupil premium support do not need to pay for this workshop.
Many thanks for you cooperation.
