Reception have been so excited about their new topic...DINOSAURS! A mysterious egg arrived in school on Monday morning and we have spent the week trying to find out 'What's inside the egg?'. It eventually hatched and we discovered that there is a baby dinosaur roaming the corridors of Fern Hill! If you see it don't be alarmed, it is very kind and loves children!'

Smart Watches & Fitness Trackers
It has come to our attention that a number of students are wearing valuable smart watches in school. Although we support the wearing of an analogue watch from year 3 onward, we don't not want students preoccupied with messages, and fitness goals. Please ensure your child isn't wearing this kind of watch or fitness tracker to school. We cannot be responsible for damage or loss.
Absences from School
Please can you call the Fern Hill office before 9am to inform the school of any absences. Also to remind parents that if your child is absent for more than one day, the school requires a letter or email giving the reason for the absence.
If you need to collect your child early from school or need to inform the office of another person collecting your child at the end of the day, please could you do this by 2.30pm so that we can ensure the message gets through to your child’s class teacher.
New Lunchtime Club
We are excited to launch the New Scientist Club at Fern Hill Primary School, delivering the world's science news and more! Children will have the opportunity to discover important science events through extensive research, and will be communicating them to you.... Watch this space!

Athletics - On Wednesday, the Year 5 and 6 athletics team entered into the second round of the Sports Hall Athletics competition at Chessington Community College. The team had already beaten two other schools to be there, and this week beat another two schools to finish fourth in the semi finals.
The team showed sportsmanship throughout the events; cheering each other on and also showing admiration for the performances of children from other schools.
Some of our top performances were in the single lap relays, where the girls finished second and the boys had a close call for their second place in the race. We also saw great efforts in the girls' obstacle relay and the 6 lap Paarlauf for the boys. It is fair to say that our practise on baton changes paid off! Once again we saw some impressive distances from our javelin throwers.
Well done to all of you who took part. You have worked hard during your training sessions and deserved every success in the competition. Keep up your hard work.
Football - On Tuesday, the Year 3 boys played in a football competition at Chessington Community College, with five other schools from the Borough. They played extremely well and set the competition on fire, winning four games, drawing one and scoring 22 goals! That amazing run saw them come out as victors! Well done boys.
If your child chooses a jacket potato for lunch and is a vegetarian by choice, please be aware that tuna is available as a topping, and the children are able to make their own choice of filling. You may want to advise them to choose beans or cheese as a topping.
We are going to trial using the current communications noticeboard (which is outside by the bicycle racks) as a local information board. If you would like to advertise any relevant events, activities, services or items for sale then please email details to the office (firstname.lastname@example.org) attaching posters, flyers or photo's and we will endeavour to display them for you if it's suitable. If you need to deliver a hard copy please post in the communications box in reception for the attention of Mrs Hawkins.
