We are now desperate for boxes of tissues for our classrooms. If you are able to donate a box to the school we would be very grateful.
I would like to congratulate everyone in year 4 on their wonderful performance of Aladdin this week. Every child and member of staff worked wonderfully as a team to deliver such an impressive show. The singing, acting and choreography was a credit to everyone involved. We are so proud of their performance.
Today the school was a sea of colour, as the whole school donned their Easter bonnet creations. The standard of design and creativity, as always, was outstanding. A fabulous way to end the spring term.
I would like to wish you all an excellent Easter break, and I look forward to welcoming you all back in the Summer term. Have a well-deserved break everyone.
We wish Mr Smith, our Premises Manger, all the very best as he embarks on a new venture. Mr Smith will be leaving us on Friday 21st April.
A Note from Miss Hales
Teaching is not an easy profession to retire from and Fern Hill is not an easy school to leave! I have loved my time here - the staff are fabulous, the parents so supportive and friendly, and the children - well, they're just AMAZING, what characters! Their company has been a total joy to me and you should be very proud of them.
So, it's cheerio for now and wishing you all the best for the rest of the year.
Roald Dahl Day
This week the year 2 children celebrated the author Roald Dahl in their lessons, and by dressing up as Roald Dahl characters.
Easter Bonnet Parade
What a fantastic parade we enjoyed today, full of colour and Spring life. The children designed some fantastic hats in their classes this week, producing such colurful and vibrant Easter themed designs. Two winners from each class were chosen, along with three staff members for their creative bonnet designs. You can view more pictures on our website gallery or follow this link.
The Team Point winner this week is Kingston.
The over winner for the Spring Term was Richmond.
Payment for all summer term clubs must now be made via ParentMail. Cash or cheque payments can be made to the school office where a receipt will be issued.
There are still spaces in all clubs for the summer term, except the following which are full:
Hockey, beginner's chess, gardening, choir and orchestra.
Application forms for clubs are still available on the website and outside the school office.
After the Easter break we once again be welcoming some eggs to nurture and watch as they hatch into little chicks. Embryo eggs are provided, 2-3 days from hatching in incubators which are specially designed for classroom hatching. An electronic thermostat ensures accurate temperature control for a high hatch rate. The large viewing windows allow the children to see all stages of hatching. The chicks will collected after 10 days and re homed to free range farms across the country. We are very excited to be able to offer the children this special experience. Look our for photographs on our website.

This week a team of 10 enthusiastic Year 2 boys travelled to Surbiton to play at a Masterclass Football training event. The team enjoyed a special training session where they improved their skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, turning and defending. Fern Hill then split into two teams to play in a friendly 5-a side football tournament. Both teams enjoyed positive team spirit and worked together in their challenging games to both score goals and defend against them. There were no prizes for the winning teams in the tournament, but each Fern Hill player can be proud of their teamwork and resilience. Thank you to the parents who came to support and for making sure that the boys were in school bright and early. Well done all of you!
On Wednesday, a mixed team from years 5 and 6 represented Fern Hill at an inter-school football tournament. In what was a tough quarter-finals round, they came up against some stiff competition, but admirably didn't let their heads drop and continued to attack at every opportunity. Their final match, against St Pauls Kingston Hill, saw their best effort, scoring 7 goals with no return. Well done to Oliver, Neyamiah, Charlie, Masa, Maddie, Kaya, Lucy and Catie
From Plot to Plate - The Fern Hill Garden
Thank you to all parents and children that turned up to help tidy our garden last weekend. Your enthusiasm for our garden really makes a difference. Thanks also go to our PSA for providing tea, coffee and biscuits to our gardeners. The weather was perfect, and together we achieved lots.
This week we have been harvesting our lettuces to serve with today's lunch menu - delicious!
