Letters & Forms for School
Please can you use the large post box under the window in the reception area for any forms and letters for school clubs, The PSA, Governors, or non urgent office letters. We are experiencing unnecessary queues at busy times. Thank you.
On Friday 24th March we are inviting the children to participate in fund-raising for this worthy cause by coming to school wearing red nose themed MUFTI for a £1 donation which will go to the Red Nose Day charity. Official noses and red clothing of your choice are welcome!
If you would also like to bring in Red Nose themed cakes on the day, they will be sold at the Arts Week evening for parents for charity donations. Children can take these into their classrooms on this day to be stored so they don't get confused with the Y3 cake sale donations left in reception. We would welcome your generous baked efforts although it is not a requirement.
There will be a small amount of official Red Nose Day merchandise for sale in school on Wednesday 22nd March & Thursday 23rd March on the school gates at drop off and pick-up times.
We are running low on tissues for the classrooms, if you don't mind purchasing an extra box for school when you're shopping, we would be extremely grateful. Thank You.
Arts week has been a huge success throughout the school. The classrooms and corridor walls are beginning to display some wonderfully creative pieces for you to enjoy during our Arts Week Exhibition on Thursday 23rd March & Friday 24th March all work will be on display for you to view from 3.45-5pm.
Year Group Newsletters
After the Easter break we will be getting greener by attaching the year group newsletters here at the bottom of this newsletter. All of the relevant updates, will be included as usual. You will be able to follow the Newsletter link sent via ParentMail on Friday afternoons or visit the website to view the weekly Newsletter and it's attachments. Utilising our website further and cutting down on paper handouts helps our planet and reduces our costs which is vital with tightening school budgets.
Paperless information sharing - If you don't already receive Fern Hill communication via ParentMail please ensure you sign up and don't miss out on vital school communication. Call or email the office email@example.com if you have any queries.
Nursery Stay & Play
Daisy Class opened the Nursery doors to parents and carers this week for daily 'stay and play' sessions. The children loved having so many additional adults in class and enjoyed showing them around their nursery. Many thanks to all those who were able to join us! We will be holding further sessions in the Summer term so look out for further information.
PSHE at Fern Hill School
As part of our PSHE learning, we have been teaching the children British Values in line with The Department of Education requirements. In assembly and the classroom we have been discussing:
The Rule of Law
Tolerance of different faiths & beliefs
Please click British Values to view our full British Values.
The children have also been listening and learning in assembly about honesty and trust. We have been through our STOP guide with them to reinforce how they can deal with any feelings of unhappiness they may experience whilst at school. Please take a look at our STOP guide and go through it with your child to reinforce the message.
School Lunches - Order Deadline
Please remember to place your child's lunch orders by Monday 20th March (forms attached)
The team with the most housepoints awarded this week is Coombe
Do you have a young Musician at home?
We would like to raise the profile of music in the school and also celebrate all the amazing music that the children do. We know that many children have extra one-to-one music lessons and we would love it (if they would like) to perform a piece to the school at the beginning of assemblies. This will show the school the child's dedication to their instrument and we believe will be inspirational to all. If you could drop an email to the office with the subject matter being music performance *the instrument* and *the piece* that would be fantastic. Many thanks.
Well done to all of the gymnasts in Key Stage 2 who were involved in the Kingston Key Steps competition. We had an impressive turnout for trials so well done to all of you who gave up your time to come and have a go. Well done to those of you who progressed into the training squad for this event. You gave up your lunch breaks to train with Owen from Good Life Gymnastics and showed great potential. Unfortunately we could only take a small team to this event, and they did you all proud!
It was clear that the gymnasts from all 17 schools were feeling nervous at the start of the competition, but you performed your best in all the disciplines. Each gymnast had to remember a series of moves for a floor routine and a body management routine, as well as completing a vault. You all performed spectacularly!
A special congratulations goes to the Year 3 and 4 team who brought home silver medals! Hopefully next year we can return the trophy to our cabinet. Keep up the fantastic gymnastics! Miss Stranks.

If you would like to apply for a club marked ** these are external clubs and must be contacted directly using separate application forms which are also on the website and outside the school office.
Completed application forms need to be in the posting box outside the school office by Friday 17th March (not 14th as stated on the email).
Payment may not be made until after Friday 24th March.
Our Wednesday hockey club is now full.
The children in the gardening club gave a wonderful presentation this week in assembly about our garden. They shared their thoughts on the importance of looking after our space and enjoying it. Spring has sprung at Fern Hill and i'm sure you'll agree it's looking beautiful.
Bounce for Books has raised just under £3,000 so far! Thank you again to all the children for their bouncing and to the parents, carers and staff who counted those bounces. Also, thank you to the families and friends who sponsored the children and supported this annual fundraiser. Sponsorship money is still coming in, so if you haven’t already done so, please do return your donations via the PSA post box in school reception ASAP. We’ll let you know exactly what we have raised after the Easter Break. Every penny raised will be used to purchase new books, fiction and non-fiction, for the KS1 & KS2 libraries.
Summer Fair planning on Saturday 24th June is underway! Look out for more information about it early next term. As usual, the courtyard area will host local small businesses selling goods and services of interest to our families, and parents can take advantage of a reduced rate of £20 for a pitch. If you are interested in having a stall, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information and a booking form, or pop a request in the PSA post box by Friday 31st March.
