New Food Smart Family App.
The New Year is often a time when people make goals and resolution for the year ahead. If taking a closer look at what you and your family are eating is one of your goals, then this new app might just be for you!
Following the success of the Sugar Smart app, Change4Life have built on it and produced the Food Smart App. It is simple to use, and includes lots of foods children (and grown ups) like to eat, so the whole family will benefit. Simply:
- Download the 'Food Smart' app your phone
- Scan the food's bar code
- Get information on your phone showing you how much Fat, Sugar and Salt is in the food you were about to choose, make it easier for you make smart food swaps to healthier alternatives.
The website also gives you lots of recipe ideas. Great, if you are in need of a bit of inspiration after the festivities to get you back on track!
You can download the app and access all the information, including ordering resources from here: Public Health England Resources
Hot & Fresh from Our Kitchen
Here at Fern Hill we are very fortunate to have our school meals cooked fresh on site everyday. Our kitchen offers a healthy hot menu of children's favourite meals & desserts. Our kitchen staff, Mrs Miles and her team have worked in the kitchen at Fern Hill for over 6 years and they certainly know what the children enjoy. You can view the current menu our website.
Food for Thought.....
Research by the Children's Food Trust shows that school meals are now consistently more nutritious than packed lunches, giving the children who eat them a better foundation for good health.
