Letter from Mr Scott

Letter from Mr Scott

Dear Parents and Families,

In my first letter to you as your new substantive Headteacher, I must first thank you for the support you gave me in applying for the position of Headteacher. It has been a huge encouragement to know that you were right behind me, and I will continue to work hard with the staff and governors to ensure your children continue to get the quality of education they deserve.

I hope you all had a restful Easter break and I know, from my whole school assembly this week that your children looked refreshed, energised and excited by the wonderful learning opportunities that await them this term.   I too, am very inspired and excited by the challenges that lay ahead and I look forward to working in greater partnership with each and every one of you throughout this term and into the future.

One way to check that we're providing the best possible education for your children is to understand how our parents feel about the school and the provision we offer.   It is important that we know what is working for you, and where you think we need to make changes to ensure the school continues to move forward.   Governors and Senior Leaders will make close scrutiny of your comments and suggestions and we will act on them where appropriate.

Please can I ask you to complete the online annual parent survey by accessing the link below   http://goo.gl/forms/J2ly9ukzD4

Paper copies will also be available from the school reception if people prefer.

While you are thinking and reflecting on the different aspects of education at Fern Hill, I'd also like to request that you complete an online questionnaire for Ofsted called ‘Parent View’. Please register through accessing https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/register

You may know that the school is due to be inspected by Ofsted at any time. The questionnaire is important to us, because we know that inspectors will consider parents’ views alongside other evidence when making a judgement about the school.

To complete the short questionnaire, you simply need an email address and a password to register. Once your login has been activated, it only takes a few minutes to choose answers to 12 short questions about the school.

Fern Hill was last inspected by Ofsted in 2008 and you may well be aware that there have been many and significant changes to the way schools are now judged since then.

Since becoming Acting Headteacher last September, I have been working with staff on how we respond to these new requirements.   We are confident that the changes we have made in school will enable us to give a positive account of ourselves to Ofsted.   Continuing with this work is a key priority for the school this term and into 2015/16.

Thank you in advance for your survey responses, and for your continued support for Fern Hill Primary School and our children.

Kind Regards,

Adam Scott
