Plant a tree for the Jubilee & The Queen's Canopy Art Competition

At Fern Hill, we will be taking part in the Woodland Trust’s The Queen’s Green Canopy and planting trees and plants to create a new Fern Garden, to enhance our school environment, support sustainability and to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee. Alongside planting ferns, we are holding an exciting competition to design a piece of commemorative artwork, with a theme linked to nature and/or sustainability, that will be displayed as a permanent plaque in the new Fern Garden.

We would love every child to take part, drawing their inspiration from nature. They may like to draw a tree, a forest, a flowering plant or perhaps a study of a part of a tree or plant such as a leaf or a flower.  Their artwork should be bright, bold and eye-catching, represent nature and/or sustainability in some way and be circular in outline.

The design can be as creative as they wish but not too complicated so that it can be replicated in a larger form. The children can use a mix of materials (colour pencils, water colour pencils or paints, pastels, collage) and any technique (sketching, drawing, painting, printing).

The winning design will be judged by Mr Scott and the winner will then have the opportunity to participate in a special art workshop to replicate their design as a plaque. There will be runners-up from each year group too. Entries should be handed in to your child’s class teacher by the closing date of Monday 23rd May at 9:00 am. Happy designing!
